• Avoid email scams posing as your bank, credit card company, or even the IRS, asking you for personal information or passwords.
• Watch out for phone calls claiming to be from the IRS, demanding payment on a gift card. That’s a scam, too.
• Protect your computer, tablets, and mobile phone with strong security protections and strong passwords.
• Prevent thieves from filing a tax return with your Social Security number by getting an Identity Protection PIN at IRs.gov/ippin.
