You’ve probably heard of the Recovery Rebate Credit, which was paid in advance to most people in two rounds of economic impact payments. People who are eligible and received less than the full amounts may claim an additional amount as the Recovery Rebate Credit.

However, you must file a 2020 tax return to claim it, even if you don’t usually file a tax return. You will need to know the amount of the firt and second economic impact payments you received in order to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.

If you don’t have the IRS notices showing the amounts you received before any offsets, you can sign up for an account at IRS.gov to find your payment amounts online. Sign up for a username and password to view your personal federal tax account information, including the amounts of your economic impact payments.
