When you open the app, some services are available without requiring you to sign in. For example, you can check your refund status and access other available IRS services. For personal tax account information and additional services, select “Sign in.” The app uses the same secure sign-in process used for IRS Online Account. Follow the prompts to securely verify your identity and access your information.
Once you’re signed in, you can see the account information and services available to you. If you have a balance, you can view available balance information and supporting details. You can also make payments directly from the app. Depending on your situation, you may also be able to check your payment activity.
Need to look at IRS correspondence? You can view select notices and letters available in your account. You can also access available tax records and transcripts, and check refund status – all without searching across multiple IRS services. Under your profile, you can manage available account and communication preferences.
Remember: use IRS.gov to verify the official app. Be cautious of look-alike apps, advertisements, and unsolicited messages asking for personal or financial information. The IRS app extends selected individual online account services to your phone, making routine IRS interactions easier to access across web and mobile.
