The IRS is excited to share a tutorial of how taxpayers can contact the IRS and receive messages using secure messaging through IRS Energy Credits Online.

IRS Secure two-way messaging in the IRS ECO Tool enables safe and secure messaging at your fingertips between you and the IRS. Let’s take a closer look at how this works:

  1. First, log in to your account.
  2. Once logged in, you will see a blue button at the top of the screen that allows the user to send a message to an IRS employee. If this is your first time using secure messaging, you will need to accept the terms of use.
  3. Follow the prompts on screen, including entering your entities’ EIN, without dashes, and name. Then select the appropriate topic you are contacting the IRS about. Click next.
  4. You will  then see your inbox. A welcome message appears if it is your first-time messaging. You can simply hit reply and enter your message or question. If you want to attach a file, select the paper clip, choose the file you are attaching, and click open.
  5. When ready, click send. A success confirmation window will appear and you can return to your inbox.
  6. Replying to a secure message is simple. Once logged into your account, you will see a screen that says you have a new message. Click on the new message to open it. Click reply, and click send when ready. You will then see a success message.
