  1. Avoid email scams posing as your bank, credit card company, or even the IRS, asking you for personal information or passwords.
  2. Watch out for phone calls claiming to be from the IRS, demanding payment on a gift card.
  3. Protect your computer, tablets, and mobile phone with strong security protections and strong passwords.
  4. Prevent thieves from filing a tax return with your Social Security number by getting an Identity Protection PIN at IRS.gov/ippin.
