Recent changes to the Child Tax Credit mean that more than 30 million households will begin receiving monthly payments this July without any further action. Eligible families will receive payments of up to $300 for each child younger than age 6 and up to $250 for each qualifying child ages six to 17.  People will receive their payments on the 15th of each month, unless the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday.

While most taxpayers don’t need to take any action to receive their payments, the IRS urges community groups, employers, and others to share information about the Child Tax Credit to help more eligible people file a tax return. That way, everyone can receive all the benefits they’re due.
